Assessing MPA Quality at Scale: An Introduction to the MPAtlas Assessment Portal
About this event
Assessing MPA Quality at Scale introduces the new data entry portal from the Marine Protection Atlas (MPAtlas), the Marine Conservation Institute’s resource for tracking and reporting marine protected area effectiveness. The MPAtlas team is building a global database of MPA assessments using The MPA Guide, a science-based framework that evaluates an MPA on two dimensions: Stage of Establishment, its status in the process of becoming an MPA, and Level of Protection, how well it is protected from the impact of human activities. With nearly 17,000 officially reported MPAs, growing the database depends on scientists and practitioners worldwide, and the Assessment Portal lets users complete MPA Guide assessments and submit additional data to existing ones. The webinar covers the purpose, utility and functionality of the portal, with a brief tour and tips on registering and getting started.
Presented by Beth Pike, Jessica MacCarthy and Nikki Harasta of the Marine Conservation Institute. Hosted by OCTO.
