A.I.S., Inc. (AIS)

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline.

Primary Function:

Video analyst will support our Electronic Monitoring Program. Electronic monitoring (EM) will increase the efficiency of fisheries monitoring by reducing costs, providing additional flexibility to fishermen, and speeding data transmission. Electronic monitoring trips are reviewed and annotated in accordance with program specific requirements. Electronic monitoring uses passive electronic systems—usually cameras and sensors to monitor a variety of fishing activities. These include:

  • Catch by species
  • Fishing time and location
  • Catch handling
  • Catch counting

Duties/Responsibilities:

Video analyst will complete data review of assigned trips. Trip details such as departure, landing, haul events, and catch events will be recorded accurately. The catch will be evaluated for final fate, discarded or retained. Notations will be made for the required measured fish, technical issues, and any catch handling concerns onboard. Candidate will improve or maintain high data quality according to feedback. Once trained, review can occur during flexible hours.

Compensation:

Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated and total compensation will vary. This is a part-time temporary position on-call position. Worked hours will be reflective of the amount of fishing effort by contracted vessels. This part time position will be based on about 15-20 hours per week, flexible hours. However, this is an estimate and may change.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to use fish dichotomous keys and other identification resources required.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and proficient in working with video review software.

Preferred Qualifications:
