Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD)

  • Salary/Compensation: $6,776.85/month
  • Application Deadline: May 23, 2025

  • Hours per Week: At least 40
  • Education Required: Bachelor’s in Natural Resources, Agriculture, Wildlife, Rangeland Management, or Fire Ecology
  • Experience Required: 5+ years in natural resources/fire ecology and wildland fire management

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate fire management activities in Region 1 and assist with statewide TPWD fire operations
  • Support prescribed fire planning, implementation, and safety oversight
  • Maintain fire equipment and staff certifications, and manage fire program logistics
  • Represent TPWD in interagency fire coordination, serve on Incident Management Teams, and conduct public outreach

Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license (within 30 days of hire)
  • NWCG certifications: FFT1 Trainee, Single Resource Boss, Firing Boss, Type IV Incident Commander, RXB2 Burn Boss
  • Ability to become TPWD Burn Boss certified within one year

Physical Requirements:

  • Pass FFTII arduous duty standard (3-mile walk with 45 lbs in 45 minutes)
  • Lift up to 75 lbs, perform outdoor labor, operate vehicles and equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in relevant field
  • Texas fire ecology experience
  • GIS and GPS data proficiency
  • Experience developing land management plans, mentoring field staff, and facilitating interagency collaboration

Working Conditions:

  • 50% travel, weekends/holidays, and outdoor work required
  • Non-smoking policy applies in all state facilities/vehicles
