Job Summary
The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) Facility is looking for a Research Assistant to join our team. This role performs tasks that require laboratory and computer skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and an ability to work with a team in time-sensitive situations. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Job Description
Essential Functions & Duties
- Handle daily stream of sample submissions and logging using database applications.
- Prepare solid sputter AMS samples for analysis by pressing graphite into aluminum cartridges.
- Collect and prepare monthly 14C swipe samples using vacuum line techniques.
- Other tasks as needed.
Required Experience & Education
- Bachelors or Associate degree in Science or related field plus 2-3 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
Preferred Experience & Education
- BS/BA degree
- Experience in a laboratory environment
- Knowledge of Excel, MS Word
Additional Job Requirements
Physical Requirements for this position include but are not limited by:
- Ability to lift above the shoulder, shoulder to knee, knee to floor
- Ability to lift 25-30 lbs. 2-3 times per day
- Ability to occasionally carry 10-25 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and mobility, use of hands for basic grasping and fine manipulation
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching
