Research Assistant II

Job Summary

The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) Facility is looking for a Research Assistant to join our team. This role performs tasks that require laboratory and computer skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and an ability to work with a team in time-sensitive situations. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Job Description

Essential Functions & Duties

• Handle daily stream of sample submissions and logging using database applications.
• Prepare solid sputter AMS samples for analysis by pressing graphite into aluminum cartridges.
• Collect and prepare monthly 14C swipe samples using vacuum line techniques.
• Other tasks as needed.

Required Experience & Education

• Bachelors or Associate degree in Science or related field plus 2-3 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.

Preferred Experience & Education

• BS/BA degree
• Experience in a laboratory environment
• Knowledge of Excel, MS Word

Additional Job Requirements

Physical Requirements for this position include but are not limited by:

• Ability to lift above the shoulder, shoulder to knee, knee to floor
• Ability to lift 25-30 lbs. 2-3 times per day
• Ability to occasionally carry 10-25 lbs.
• Manual dexterity and mobility, use of hands for basic grasping and fine manipulation
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching
