Position Summary:
The McCleery Lab at the University of Florida is urgently seeking 1–2 exceptional postdoctoral researchers to join an interdisciplinary team focused on mammal conservation and invasive species management across Florida.
This full-time, one-year position (with the possibility of extension) is based in Gainesville, Florida, with regular fieldwork and travel required.
Key Projects:
- Invasive Burmese Pythons: Develop low-cost lures and a real-time detection/alert system to improve capture success in South Florida.
- Ecological Forecasting: Build predictive models for the timing and location of python captures.
- Sanibel Island Rice Rats: Study movement patterns in response to hydrology, road networks, and habitat management (fire, shrub removal).
- Florida Salt Marsh Voles: Analyze the impacts of sea-level rise and habitat shifts near Cedar Key.
Each project involves collaboration with federal/state agencies, technicians, and faculty. Researchers will coordinate field and analytical work, write publications and reports, and supervise team members.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or related field.
- At least three first-authored, peer-reviewed publications.
- Strong communication and team leadership skills.
- U.S. work authorization is required.
Preferred Experience:
- Field-based ecological research (especially in remote/hard-to-access environments).
- Small mammal trapping & radio telemetry.
- Spatial ecology, movement analysis, remote sensing.
- Project management & collaboration with stakeholders.
