
North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (State)
Salary: $31,084–$54,397 per year
Position Summary:
The Marine Fisheries Technician will support estuarine bottom habitat mapping and shellfish abundance surveys for the Bottom Mapping Program and Shellfish Lease Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct shellfish lease site investigations and manage administration for proposed leases.
- Map bivalve and SAV habitat, verify marking of shellfish leases, and perform field sampling using GPS and GIS technologies.
- Support other programs, including Shellfish Rehabilitation and Oyster Disease programs.
- Operate, maintain, and repair sampling boats, trailers, and equipment.
- Use advanced mapping technologies, such as Trimble, Bad Elf, and side scan sonar, to collect and process benthic habitat data.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including pulling, hand raking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
About the Division:
The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) oversees marine and estuarine resources across state coastal waters extending to 3 miles offshore. DMF policies are guided by the Marine Fisheries Commission, in collaboration with state and federal agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must document the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of sampling techniques.
- Experience operating and maintaining boats or trailers.
- Familiarity with word processing or spreadsheets.
