Job Summary
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is seeking East Coast Winch Pool Manager join the Marine Operations Department. This is a full-time, exempt on site role.
Oversee the assets and personnel of the winch pool. Provide scheduling logistics. Write annual reports/funding requests and monitor spending/budgets
Job Description
Essential Duties & Functions
- Supervisory Roll
- Primary staff of 2 or 3 people.
- Roll players such as Jim Fluke (wire winding, crane work, etc).
- Logistics
- Shipping
- Domestic
- International
- Supplies
- Keeping spare parts inventory.
- Ordering needed repair parts.
- Hardware
- Procurement of new winches.
- Tools
- Scheduling of Assets
- Work with non NSF funded groups (NOAA, ONR, private funding)
- Determine day rates for all assets.
- Shipping
- Funding
- Developing annual budgets.
- Composing annual reports to NSF.
- Communication with sponsors.
- Written and verbal skills.
- Meetings

- Present oral report on winch pool activities.
- RVOC
- Present oral report on winch pool activities.

- Space Management
- Winch pool shop in Quissette Facilities Building
- Deal with Vendors
- Major acquisitions such as winches and spoolers.
- Conduct factory acceptance test as needed.
- Electronics and/or mechanical skills a plus.
- Maintain ECWP schedule database.
Required Experience & Education
- Two years of related experience, High School graduate
Preferred Experience & Education
- Four years of related experience, Undergraduate degree in a technical field
Additional Job Requirements
Physical Requirements
- Moderate lifting and standing for up to 3 hours
Travel
Periodic travel required – 3-4 trips per year
