Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $84,000.00 Annually

Founded in 2001, Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation. We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. Our campaigns extend to countries that, combined, govern nearly one-third of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the 27 countries in the European Union.

Oceana seeks a Grants Analyst to join Oceana’s dynamic and fast-paced grants compliance and budgeting team. Reporting to the lead Grants Analyst, the Grants Analyst will assist with various financial functions, including grant reporting, proposal budgeting, grant allocation and tracking, funding gap analysis, documenting grant terms and conditions, performing ad hoc analyses, and supporting the internal annual budget process. The candidate will be able to synthesize large quantities of data across multiple currencies, have strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, and be an excellent communicator.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Grant Budget Development and Reporting

  • Prepare grant proposal budgets in consultation with the Development Team and campaign staff to secure revenue for Oceana.
  • Liaise with IT and Development to create customized grant reports for funders, directors, and senior management, which will include thoughtful analysis of variances and trends.
  • Develop forecasts and projections using existing data and through collaboration with campaign staff.

Grant Management

  • In partnership with the OAs in each country, allocate actual expenses to grants in compliance with a complex web of restrictions for various donors, which will inform financial reporting internally and to funders.
  • Maintain funding gap analyses to inform fundraising needs and priorities in partnership with Development and campaign staff.
  • Maintain records of grant terms and conditions in Salesforce.
  • Prepare regular budget reviews and financial analyses for senior finance and executive leadership.

Other

  • Provide technical assistance and grant accounting support as Oceana moves to more automated reporting, including designing and implementing new system-based reports and dashboards.
  • Support Oceana’s internal organizational budgeting process.
  • Support Oceana’s global audit by providing key grant spending information and responding to auditor’s turnkey requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business, International Studies, Environmental Studies, or equivalent
  • Three to five years of relevant grant management experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, and constituent relationship management (CRM) software.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is required. Candidates will be comfortable using formulas like XLOOKUP, IF formulas, CONCATENATE, Goal Seek, and Pivot Tables.
  • Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning is strongly preferred. Otherwise, experience in Advanced Reporting (Microsoft Power BI, NetSuite Analytics, Crystal Reports, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience in Salesforce and NetSuite is a plus.
  • Superior attention to detail.

  • Able to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities in a faced-paced environment and perform them with speed, accuracy, and courtesy.
  • Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding payroll and other confidential information.
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
