This is a permanent, full-time position located in Charleston, Oregon.

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon’s fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

As a Supervising Fish and Wildlife Biologist, you will direct and implement all fish management activities within the Coos/Coquille/Tenmile Fish District in ODFW’s Umpqua Watershed District. Responsibilities include managing fish stocks, restoring habitats, fostering partnerships, and ensuring sustainable resource use.


Key Duties:

  1. Supervision of fisheries staff
  2. Building partnerships with Tribal governments, conservation organizations, and government entities
  3. Coordinating fisheries management activities (e.g., volunteer projects, habitat restoration, hatchery activities)
  4. Maintaining strong public relations

The role requires HAZWOPER training certification and an ATV Safety Education Card within six months of hire.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of biological experience in fish or wildlife programs, with at least one year at a professional or technical level.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries/Wildlife Science or closely related field with at least 45 quarter hours of biological/ecological coursework.
  • Supervisory or lead work experience required.

Equivalency Notes:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field substitutes for one year of required experience.
  • Doctorate substitutes for up to two years.

Desired Attributes:

  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge in fisheries biology (e.g., hatchery management, habitat restoration).
  • Experience developing proposals, analyzing data, and working with tribal and agency partnerships.
