Position Purpose
The Environmental and Social Sustainability (DES) Officer plays a crucial role in supporting BSTDB’s sustainability mandate, ensuring environmental and social soundness in financing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental and social due diligence for financing operations, focusing on climate change considerations.
- Draft and integrate operation-specific plans, such as Stakeholder Engagement Plans, Environmental and Social Action Plans, and Climate Action Plans.
- Align operations with the Climate Change Strategy, ensuring climate and environmental objectives are met.
- Contribute to strategic policy drafting to ensure BSTDB follows emerging sustainability standards and best practices.
- Conduct research on environmental, climate, and social issues to keep BSTDB updated on developments.
- Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders on sustainability initiatives.
- Identify new business opportunities and advocate for sustainability principles to enhance BSTDB’s reputation.

Required Qualifications
- First-level university degree in Life, Earth, Social, or Environmental Sciences; Sustainable Finance or Energy Policy; or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in environmental and social sustainability across various industries.
- Knowledge of international environmental, labor, health, and safety norms in public and private sector financing.
- Expertise in climate risk assessments, environmental impact evaluations, and mitigation strategies.
- Familiarity with environmental and social guidelines and best practices across industries.
Desirable Qualifications
- Understanding of greenhouse gas accounting methodologies and climate adaptation strategies.
- Working experience in BSTDB’s region of operations.
- Previous experience in environmental and social sustainability within an international financial institution.
