The role

The MBA Data Team has an international reputation for innovative, standards-based data management solutions. As part of its work supporting the wider Marine Biological community in the UK the MBA Data Team operates DASSH, the UK Archive for Marine Species and Habitats Data and UK Node for the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS), publishing and preserving over 6 million marine species and biotope records.

DASSH works in partnership with organisations globally contributing data and technical expertise to create a more complete picture of the ocean’s species and habitats; an essential resource that maximises the use of marine data and increases its impact through tools that inform conservation decision making as well as national and global policy.

As our new Data Officer you would be supporting the digitisation, standardisation and quality assurance of marine biodiversity data sets coming into the archive, as well as liaising with and advising data providers/users, partners and contractors. You will support DASSH social media activities showing the fun and interesting sides of data management and archiving, as well as helping with external contracts where you will be contributing to national and international projects.  You will be conscientious and have a passion for marine data and its potential in the wider world of conservation and policy. We are looking for someone with a high attention to detail to ensure that our data sets are of the highest quality.
