POSITION SUMMARY – This position is based in preferably Suva, Fiji, other possible locations are Samoa or Timor Leste

Conservation International has been awarded a regional project under the Kiwa Initiative entitled “Restoring Ecosystems for Sustainable, Transformative and Resilient Communities (RESTORE).” The project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity and economic resilience of Pacific Islanders – specifically to improve shoreline stability, coastal protection, and sustainable livelihoods – through Nature-based Solutions focused on community-based ecosystem restoration in Fiji, Samoa, and Timor-Leste.

Under the supervision of the Kiwa Senior Program Manager, the Communications Officer will lead the execution of the project Communications Plan. The Officer will lead the project’s communication functions and activities to build the communications and outreach capacity of the Kiwa Initiative project.  The Communications Officer handles complex communications issues and problems and implements solutions in consultation with the immediate supervisor. The Communications Officer will also manage procurement related to communications and oversee the design of regional communications deliverables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads execution of the project Communications and Visibility Plan (including updating as needed).
  • Leads in the creation and distribution of project communications products including social media posts, print news stories, videos, presentations at events and conferences, and other knowledge products and promotional materials.
  • Lead in the creation of memos, press releases, newsletters, marketing collateral, or other communication documents.
  • Collects, reviews, and edits final communications from projects and inserts copies into approved formats, files, or documents.
  • Distributes communications as directed and maintains records of delivery, receipt, or acknowledgment.
  • Creates email or distribution lists.
  • Monitor and report on the key events, communication activities, and budget utilization on a regular basis.
  • May respond to basic questions or inquiries about information communicated.
  • Provides in-house branding and communication guidance to internal groups.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Operations Manager, Country Director, and the global Brand and Communications office to ensure country offices’ program communications comply with CI’s global policies and standard practices and donors’ requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Staff will work from the office with travel to the field office for official business when required.
  • May need to work extended hours as needed.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 2 to 4 years of demonstratable social media, media management, content strategy, and digital marketing expertise.
  • Experience working with and developing communication materials using computer graphic applications such as Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Piktochart, Prezi, etc.
  • Understanding of the economic, climate, and environmental issues facing the Pacific Islands region, particularly strong knowledge of Nature-based Solutions and ecological/ecosystem restoration.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify solutions.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Team player and able to work effectively with diverse work groups in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, set priorities, and deliver quality results.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and under general supervision.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience facilitating large meetings and workshops.
  • Ability to commute between the HQ and field site.
