(3) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (CIMAR) located at the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $6,300 – $8,000/Mon.

DUTIES:  In collaboration with PIFSC scientists, this position is focused on the analysis and preparation of data for stock assessments of both target and non-target species across the Pacific Islands region.  The role involves exploring and applying various stock assessment methods, conducting comprehensive data synthesis, and standardizing datasets to support robust stock assessments. This position will collaborate and coordinate with other project leads, assessment scientists, and data scientists within NOAA Fisheries Pacific Island Fisheries Science Center as well as members of the Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Council and the Hawai’i Department of Aquatic Resources.  Results of this work will be conveyed effectively to a wide variety of audiences through reports, potentially  peer-reviewed scientific publications, and presentations.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: PhD from an accredited college or university in Fisheries, Biology, Marine Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field of study.
EXPERIENCE: Up to one (0-1) year of experience in developing and applying quantitative approaches to fisheries in support of fisheries assessment.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of R for fisheries analysis, and age-structured stock assessment models.
ABILITIES & SKILLS: Must be able to meet and maintain the United States Department of Commerce (USDOC) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) security requirements to access work location.  Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien.  Must possess strong written and oral communication skills to collaborate with and train government representatives, academic partners, and agency personnel. Previous authorship or co-authorship of publications in a related field of study. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to meet and maintain U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) security requirements for working in a federal facility, which includes being fingerprinted and having a federal background check performed prior to date of hire and maintained throughout duration of employment. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    

Experience developing and using fishery related data. Knowledge of fish ecology, and/or fisheries science in Hawai‘i and the Pacific Island Region.
