Archaeology Technician – Joshua Tree

Position Overview

Salary/Compensation: $25–$27 per hour, depending on experience
Application Deadline: June 30, 2025
Start Date: Between May 19 and June 30, 2025
End Date: Up to one year from start, ending between May 2026 and June 2026
Hours per Week: Full-Time (40+ hours/week)
Education Required: Bachelor’s in Anthropology, Archaeology, Indigenous Studies, or related field
Experience Required:

  • None required, but 6+ months of field experience or accredited field school preferred


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological field surveys, monitoring, site condition assessments, mapping, and excavations
  • Draft synthesis reports and sections of archaeological site documentation
  • Input data and manage digital records and field files
  • Support cultural resource management and report writing
  • Perform site restoration and vegetation tasks such as vertical mulching and native plantings
  • Work in extreme weather, hike rugged terrain, and camp in remote desert environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (advanced degree encouraged)
  • Coursework in archaeological field methods or field school experience
  • Experience with GPS, GIS (ArcGIS), and archaeological databases
  • Strong physical endurance: ability to carry 40+ lbs and navigate rough terrain
  • Valid driver’s license and 4WD vehicle proficiency
  • Knowledge of Mojave/Colorado Desert cultural history is a plus
  • Clean background check and ability to pass DOI Background Investigation
