Aquarist

• Salary/Compensation: GBP £25,991.00–£28,391.00 per year

• Hours per Week: Full-time
• Education Required: Degree-level qualification in animal care, marine biology, or equivalent desirable
• Experience Required: Experience in public aquariums, animal husbandry, and large life support systems maintenance

Essential Functions:

• Care for 35 displays including Scottish lochs, reef predators, and a 200,000-litre ocean display
• Conduct feedings, health checks, and water quality tests
• Maintain tanks and perform water changes
• Create enrichment for animals like otters and rays
• Participate in guest engagement during feedings
• Build, clean, and enhance displays with proper theming, lighting, and movement

Qualifications:

• Experience with freshwater and marine animals, including invertebrates
• Knowledge of water chemistry and aquatic life support systems
• Practical skills in plumbing and display construction
• Physically fit and willing to take on all aspects of aquarium maintenance

Working Conditions:

• Indoor work environment with water-based equipment and aquatic animals
• Includes weekend, bank holiday, and on-call emergency rota shifts
• Requires hands-on animal handling, cleaning duties, and display upkeep
