Plastic Pollution Coalition invites you to attend our panel Plastics + Climate during the inaugural DC Climate Week, on Tuesday, April 29, Day 2 of the week of programming, focused on Policy & Advocacy.
Ninety-nine percent of all plastics are made from petrochemicals derived from fossil fuels—gas, oil, and coal. Despite the urgent need to cut our reliance on fossil fuels, the plastics and petrochemical industries plan to triple plastics production by 2060. By 2050, plastic production and disposal could generate greenhouse-gas emissions equivalent to 615 coal plants annually and use up to 13% of Earth’s remaining carbon budget.
Joining the discussion will be Julia Cohen, Managing Director and Co-Founder, Plastic Pollution Coalition; Frankie Orona, Executive Director, Society of Native Nations; and Reverend Lennox Yearwood Jr., President and CEO, Hip Hop Caucus. The event will be moderated by Steven Feit, Senior Attorney & Legal and Research Manager, Center for International Environmental Law.
