Plus, the Limited-Edition Eco Series Launch Modeling the World’s Most Sustainable Book Ever Printed
Chris Bertish, internationally acclaimed speaker, author, big wave surfer, Guinness SUP World Record holder and conservationist, announces the launch of his newest book, ALL IN! The Atlantic Standup Paddleboard Crossing – 93 Days Alone at Sea, featuring never-before-told tales of his record-breaking 4,050-mile transatlantic solo and unassisted journey from Morocco to northern Florida from December 2016 to March 2017. In conjunction, a secondary launch of a Limited-Edition Eco Series of ALL IN!, the most sustainable book ever printed, will be auctioned off with proceeds used to plant forests and build a school for disadvantaged children.
“This book is an example of using influence to do good and be the change we want to see in the world while constantly working to be a role model and beacon of hope to others and the world around us, because the easy way is often not the right way,” said Bertish. “We can all strive to just be a little better, each and every day in some small way.”
Available on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble, the standard printed version of ALL IN! has a 5-star Sustainability rating and is printed on Forest Steward Certified paper, which means that it’s good for people and good for the planet. It’s also one of the first books in the world that plants a forest for every print run done, through the Platbos Reserve in South Africa and a mangrove forest through the SeaTrees initiative in Baja California, Mexico.
With only 13 copies printed, the Limited-Edition Eco Series is the first of its kind, pioneering a model of how sustainability and publishing can coexist for a path to a better future. With no stone left unturned, Bertish ensured each aspect of the book is 100 percent sustainable and promotes positive change for the planet and its people long after it’s read. The Limited-Edition book is printed on 40 percent post-consumer recycled paper with soy and water-based inks and bound with eco-cotton thread using non-toxic water-based glues. The book’s cover is made with Toile Ocean material using recycled ocean plastics and is foil stamped and embossed using biodegradable and recyclable foil. The Eco Series book also contains a unique Seed Page built into it so after reading, the page can be torn out and planted and turned into wildflowers.
Proceeds from the Limited-Edition Eco Series book will build one circular economy, a horticultural school in a remote part of rural Kenya for disadvantaged youth which will empower women, educate children, and plant a 4,500-tree edible forest to help support and sustain a community. The book launch will accompany a cross-country tour from the West Coast to the East Coast with Chris’ iconic, record-breaking Impifish craft in tow—the same craft that housed and transported him safely across two oceans during his Transatlantic Standup Paddle Crossing in 2017 and the Transpacific Wing Foil Crossing in 2022. The speaking and book-signing tour will culminate at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show from October 24-30, 2023 where Chris will auction off his craft, paddles and other prized gear along with the Limited Edition Eco Series ALL IN! book.
About Chris Bertish:
Chris Bertish is driven by passion and commitment and has achieved some of the greatest feats in surfing and standup paddle boarding history. He is a waterman who turns adversity into opportunity and no challenge is too great or impossible for him. As an international speaker, Chris inspires audiences with stories of courage, determination, resilience and overcoming insurmountable odds to achieve seemingly goals and dreams, while raising awareness for challenging ocean conservation and climate change issues globally.
Chris won the 2010 Mavericks Big Wave Invitational event in Half Moon Bay, California in some of the biggest waves in history, merely hours after touching down from a 36-hour flight from South Africa, on a borrowed board, against all odds. From 2013-14, Chris set three separate standup paddle World Records, two in Europe and the Open Ocean, 12-hour SUP Guinness World Distance Record. In 2015 he co-directed and released the acclaimed film Ocean Driven, and launched the best-selling book Stoked! both about his life story.
In 2017 Chris redefined adventure by standup paddling solo and unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, over 4,000 miles from Morocco to the Caribbean in 93 days, raising money for Operation Smile and the support of youth, education and ocean conservation initiatives.
The Transatlantic SUP Crossing won Chris the global “Expedition of the Year Award” at the 2017 US Global SUP Awards and was named one of the Top-100 Genius Icons, by Global Genius 100, Leaders of Innovation and Creativity, by the Einstein Institute in 2018.
Bertish’s second film, “Last Known Coordinates” about his epic Transatlantic standup paddle journey launched globally in mid-2021, and can be viewed on streaming platforms including iTunes, Apple TV, or on Vimeo.
In 2022 Chris completed his second ocean crossing during his Transpacific Wing Project, breaking the previous world record for longest distance traveled solo, unsupported on a wing foil. The historic 2,465-mile expedition from Half Moon Bay, California to Honolulu, Hawaii was the world’s first solo, wing foil, transpacific crossing and surpasses Bertish’s previous world record for the longest distance traveled on a wing-foil, solo and unsupported at 212 miles achieved in June 2021. Transpacific Wing Project’s mission was to raise awareness of climate change and climate action while enriching minds through ocean conservation and ocean education.
