This saves paint waste, land fill pile up, and prevents clogged drain pipes from not washing paint down the drain.
Conservation to sculptural painting artist, Ruth Collis, has come to mean something out of the ordinary with her thick acrylic painting style. As she builds up layers of acrylic paint on her non-stick palette, she has found that the dried leathery skin of paint can be peeled off and rolled into these tube sponges or pipe coral shapes instead of being piled up in our land fills and also saves paint waste. In fact, she saves many dried paint scrap pieces to use in sculptures later… all made entirely out of thick acrylic paint.
Collis also uses another method of saving paint water in a bucket with a hole in the lid that allows water to evaporate out instead of going down the drain, which saves clogged drain pipes, as she demonstrates in this video on “How to Dispose Acrylic Paint Water:” (https://youtu.be/xoVGv4ZkO8E)
As Ruth Collis has taught many in her online video courses, she began to see there are a multitude of organ pipe coral shapes and colors, so decided to do a painting series of highly sculpted pipe corals turned to luxury paintings all from conserving and re-purposing her unused dried palette paint. She hopes others will appreciate the beauty the underseas has to offer and collect these highly sculpted original paintings where 3-dimension brings the coral subject to life. She would also like for others to connect with her to form a partnered plan to help raise funds to spread coral reef awareness through her painting style.
