SUMMARY:From Silos to Systems: Relational Frameworks for Marine and Coastal Management
DESCRIPTION:About this event\nFrom Silos to Systems is a one-day conference for marine scientists, policymakers, regulators and management practitioners on how UK marine science, policy and regulation connect. It is built around the Relational Frameworks project, which has used simple tables to map how these areas relate, including the people, expert groups, finance and value chains involved. The aim is to show how understanding those relationships can support collaboration, reduce duplication, improve decision-making and deliver more value for the marine environment and society.\nThe day combines presentations, practical examples and interactive discussion across three sessions. The morning explains the frameworks and how they can be used. The midday session looks at collaborations that have worked across organisational silos. The afternoon closes with “provocations” on priority challenges where pooled effort could make a difference. Participants’ input will feed into the event’s outputs.\nOrganisers: Relational Frameworks project (Lissa Batey, LB Ocean Consulting; Hayley Hinchen, Sea Sense Marine Consulting; Bob Earll), promoted by Ocean and Coastal Futures\nWhat to expect\n\nSession chairs from Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Natural England and the Environment Agency\nCase studies including multi-agency seabed mapping (Maritime & Coastguard Agency), the UK Marine Climate Change Impacts Partnership, Coastal Partnerships, and The Crown Estate’s Offshore Wind Evidence and Change Programme\nProvocations on the South Coast Marine Recovery Programme, measuring progress to Good Environmental Status, Marine Recovery Action Plans, breaking out of data silos, and working in systems rather than silos\nSpeakers from The Wildlife Trusts, Howell Marine Consulting, Natural England, Cefas, NLA International and International Estuarine & Coastal Specialists\nRegistration fee £195; lunch and refreshments included\nSponsorship packages available through Lissa Batey (lissa@lboceanconsulting.com, +44 7733 405707)\n\nDate and time\n20 October 2026\n9:00 am to 4:00 pm BST (4:00 to 11:00 am EDT).\nCost\n£195, lunch and refreshments included\nRegistration\nRegister ( https://site.corsizio.com/event/6a7dbe9085c4da092699d344 )\n
