SUMMARY:IFM 57th Annual Conference: Connected Waters
DESCRIPTION:About this event\nThe 57th IFM Annual Conference, Connected Waters: Advancing Freshwater Fish Conservation, Recovery and Management, hosted by the Anglian Branch, brings speakers from the UK, Ireland and beyond to Lincoln for two days of presentations and networking, including the Annual Dinner and Awards. Britain’s freshwater fish are among the clearest measures of the health of its rivers, lakes and wetlands, and those waters are under pressure from degraded habitat, barriers to migration, declining water quality, invasive species and a changing climate. The conference looks at the changing status of native species and emerging threats, what river and wetland restoration is delivering on the ground, the work of reconnecting rivers and removing barriers, the monitoring tools and data sources reshaping the evidence base, and the day-to-day realities of practical fisheries management. This year’s John Gregory Lecture, titled Solutions, is given by Simon Johnson, Executive Director of the Freshwater Biological Association. A second Early Careers Group Workshop runs at the venue on Monday 5 October, 13:00 to 17:00, with lunch and refreshments provided; register interest with Phoebe Worley at Phoebe.worley@ifm.org.uk.\nWhat to expect\n\nRiver and wetland restoration\nStatus, recovery and emerging threats to freshwater fish\nReconnecting rivers and barriers to fish movement\nMonitoring and evidence: new tools and data sources\nPractical fisheries management: technology, welfare and community\nJohn Gregory Lecture by Simon Johnson, Annual Dinner and Awards\nEarly Careers Group Workshop, 5 October\n\nDate and time\n6 to 7 October 2026\nLocation and format\nAlive Lincoln, Lincoln, United Kingdom\nRegistration\nRegistration and information ( https://ifm.org.uk/events/ifm-57th-annual-conference-2/ )\nConference details ( https://www.cmscoms.com/ifm-57th-annual-conference-connected-waters-6-7-october-2026/ )\n
